Last weekend I attended the Historical Novel Society Conference in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was a great gathering that included Anne Perry, Diana Gabaldon, C.W. Gortner, and many others. Watch this space for videos from the conference in a week or so.

Ray Bradbury gave this advice to new writers:

Don’t start out writing novels. They take too long. Begin your writing life instead by cranking out “a hell of a lot of short stories,” as many as one per week. Take a year to do it; he claims that it simply isn’t possible to write 52 bad short stories in a row.

Artist and historical novelist Renee Dos Santos has published an interview with me on her blog.

Happy New Year!

I was happy to start the new year by stumbling on a news item I missed earlier: the stolen Codex Calixtinus has been found.

The Codex Calixtinus is the medieval guide to travelling the pilgrimage trail to Santiago de Compostela.

You can read my earlier blog on the theft here.
